Abstract
One of the biggest threats to global health is cancer, a complex disease marked by uncontrolled cell development. This manuscript provides a comprehensive overview of cancer, elucidating its etiology, classification, and treatment modalities, with an emphasis on how art-based therapy can significantly improve the quality of life for cancer patients. Cancer encompasses a diverse spectrum of diseases, including breast cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, and prostate cancer, each with distinct histological, molecular, and clinical characteristics. Treatment approaches vary based on cancer type, stage, and individual patient factors, encompassing surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. Despite advancements in oncological care, cancer treatment often entails physical, emotional, and psychosocial challenges for patients. Art-based therapies, such as art therapy and creative expression interventions, emerge as invaluable adjunctive modalities in comprehensive cancer care. Through painting, drawing, sculpture, and other artistic mediums, cancer patients navigate the complexities of illness, finding solace, empowerment, and resilience amidst adversity. Art therapy fosters emotional processing, relaxation, and psychosocial support, enabling patients to cope with treatment-related stressors, enhance emotional well-being, and cultivate a sense of meaning and purpose on their cancer journey. Furthermore, art-based interventions contribute to patient empowerment, community building, and public awareness initiatives, amplifying the voices of cancer survivors and advocates. By integrating art into the fabric of cancer care, we can foster holistic healing and promote the welfare of patients affected by this formidable disease.
